The science

When you sweat you lose water and sodium, along with smaller amounts of potassium; replacing fluid and electrolytes supports rehydration during activity (Shirreffs & Sawka, 2011). The Hydration Powder (Lemonade) provides, per serving, sodium 100 mg, potassium 200 mg, calcium 40 mg and magnesium 20 mg, plus B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, folate and B12). The Sea Moss capsules contain Irish moss and bladderwrack, with burdock root and black pepper extract. Edible seaweeds naturally contain minerals; amounts vary by plant and batch (Brown et al., 2014; Cherry et al., 2019). We make no mineral or iodine claims for the sea moss because amounts are not stated on the label.

Warnings

Contains sea moss and bladderwrack, which naturally contain iodine in variable amounts. Do not use if pregnant or nursing. Consult your doctor before use if you have a thyroid condition or take thyroid medication. Do not exceed 2 capsules daily. Hydration powder: do not exceed 5 scoops in 24 hours. Manufactured in a facility that produces milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame.

Grandpa's story

Pull up a crate, friend. There's no thirst like a deckhand's thirst. I learned that hauling nets under a summer sun off the reef, salt spray drying white on my arms till I looked like a sugared biscuit. My first season I thought a man could get by on grit alone. The skipper, a leathery woman named Captain Rosa, set me straight. She'd ring the brass bell at noon and every soul aboard had to stop, sit in the shade of the wheelhouse, and drink up. No excuses. "The sea takes from you all day," she'd say. "You've got to give some back." We'd pass the canteen round and swap tall tales while the gulls argued overhead. Those noon bells are some of my fondest memories. So when the sun's high and the work's hard, I still hear Rosa's bell. Take a break, sailor, and drink up.
